Santiago

My firsthand finds in Santiago, Chile — vegan food, Chilean classics, açaí, specialty coffee, cocktails and wine, from the places I actually visited.

Santiago has a great mix of city views, culture, shopping, wine, architecture, and unique places to explore. These are some of my favorite experiences from my time in the city.

Things to do

In and around Santiago

  • Cerro San Cristóbal & Virgin Mary Statue

Head up Cerro San Cristóbal for incredible views over Santiago and the Andes. At the top is the iconic Virgin Mary statue overlooking the city. The funicular or cable car also makes getting to the top part of the experience.

  • The Bahá'í Temple of South America in Santiago, its nine translucent petal-shaped panels rising above trimmed hedges and a paved path, with the arid Andean foothills behind under a clear blue sky.© VeggieTravelGirl

    Bahá’í Temple of South America

One of the most unique places I visited in Santiago. This Bahá’í House of Worship has striking modern architecture and sits beautifully against the Andes. It’s open to visitors of all backgrounds and is a peaceful place to explore and take in the views.

    Winery Day Trip

Take a day trip from Santiago to experience Chilean wine country. I visited Concha y Toro, where you can explore the winery and taste Chilean wines. It’s an easy way to experience one of the things Chile is best known for while staying in Santiago.

    Parque Arauco

A great stop for shopping, dining, and taking a break from sightseeing. Parque Arauco is a large shopping complex with a mix of local and international brands.

  • Sky Costanera

Head to Sky Costanera for panoramic views over Santiago and the Andes from above. They also have tasty drinks you can enjoy while taking in the view.

  • Mercado Central

Explore Santiago’s historic Mercado Central. It’s a fun place to walk around, see the historic building, and experience a different side of the city.

  • Plaza de Armas

Walk around Plaza de Armas, the historic heart of Santiago. The square is surrounded by beautiful architecture and important landmarks and is a great place to explore central Santiago on foot.

I’ve even taken a spin class in Chile using ClassPass. While it works internationally, I personally tend to use it more often when traveling domestically because taking fitness classes in another language can add an extra challenge.
